First time at the Mayan Theatre and boy was it the beginning! Saw Poor Things and got popcorn and a Moscow Mule at the bar. The theatre staff were very knowledgeable about the showings and the facility was neat and it’s beautiful inside and out! Movie quality was great. Will be returning soon!
Loved it so much!!! Came from Co Springs to see a movie that wasn't playing in the Springs. It was well worth it if you enjoy the ambiance and don't think all theaters should look like Tinseltown. The theater itself is absolutely beautiful! I was a little worried about extra small seats since that was the norm back in the day when it was built. The seats were very comfortable, and I sat through a 3 hour movie! The other thing I want to rave about is their popcorn. If you are a movie theater popcorn connoisseur (guilty) they have VERY good popcorn. I will definitely find a reason to return.
Go for the historical significance, less the movie experience. Theaters and movie screens are small. No reclining seats, no lounge seats (think padded stadium seating). Nothing bad to say about service, timeliness nor price. Average experience. Worth checking out though.
Super cute theater, but it’s very much NOT handicap/elderly friendly.
Second floor has handicap/wheelchair seating available per the website, but no elevator.
Parking in the front was recently replaced with a bike lane and the handicap parking is way in the back of the building as well, which put a lot of strain on my elderly family member.
Seats haven’t been updated and are also really close to each other (I’m 5’2” and my knees were hitting the seat in front of me). Would definitely come here with friends, but won’t be taking my fam anytime soon.
I love going to movies at this historic movie theatre! It opened in 1930 and is a site to behold! It was almost demolished in the 80s, so going there is an experience. (They don't make them like they used to.) Look around at the art when you see a film there. Parking available in the Walgreens lot next to it. Restaurants like the Hornet are close by for a before or after movie meal.
Love going to The Mayan for new releases. They have a really cute bar with small bites. The main downstairs theatre is super fun too with low, older wooden seating.
This place is a magical place from the past. I've seen several historical dramas or films in gorgeous locations and when you look at the walls for a moment, and avert your eyes from the screen, you feel like you're in another world, time & place. This theater is a jewel in Denver and I'm so grateful it's been saved and preserved.
Old buildings not designed for today’s movie experience. I enjoy the look into the past. I absolutely love the lighting on the outside
